Publications including Farming UK and Somerset Live have reported on new research showing an increase in interest in rural locations among home buyers

The papers reported on research from Zoopla which revealed that the rural district of Ryedale in North Yorkshire saw the highest boost in sales agreed – up 63 percent in the past six months, compared to the same period in 2019.

The latest Rental Market Report from Zoopla identified a two-speed rental market emerging between London and the rest of the country with a supply/demand imbalance supporting positive rental growth across all regions and major cities outside London. Meanwhile, a survey of more than 1,000 young Londoners by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) found that over half of young people want to swap city life for rural areas.

However, the CLA highlighted concern that rural communities would not be able to seize this opportunity if landowners are unable to meet demand for houses or high-quality office space with fast internet connections. The CLA urged Government resources to be allocated across multiple departments to create an attractive environment for potential movers.
