RURAL communities around North Hertfordshire have been awarded funding totalling £41,339.

Money from the North Hertfordshire District Council Rural Grants Fund will be used to fund projects which enhance local amenities for the community.

Improvements to village halls and community buildings, play areas, green spaces and club houses across rural North Herts are just some of the 29 projects that will receive a portion of the funding.

Each project has been assessed and awarded a varying amount ranging from £250 to a maximum of £3,000 depending on the size and scope of the project.

The criteria that has to be met to receive the community funding is divided into three categories; Parish playgrounds, environmental improvements, and community buildings refurbishment projects.

These include projects that range from providing new play equipment for an existing play ground, supplying funding for a community cinema in Pirton, and funding towards equipment and wardens to help maintain communal green areas.

Councillor Tony Hunter, portfolio holder for community engagement said: "All of the projects that have received funding from NHDC's Rural Grants Fund will contribute to the well being and quality of life for those who live in the rural community.

"This is why we are happy to be supporting these projects and are looking forward to seeing the end results."

Next round of Rural Grants Fund will be taking place in Summer 2014.
