Welsh farm subsidy changes delayed again to 2025

BBC News reports that a new Sustainable Farming Scheme will be rolled out from January 2025, rewarding efforts to protect and enhance Wales' rural and agricultural economies

How farmers get paid in the future is a key part of the Welsh government's plans to fight climate change, but the changes will also have the potential to significantly impact the rural economy.

A transition to new subsidy arrangements is already underway in England, while the Scottish government has promised full delivery by 2023.

Details of the plan for Wales have been delayed due to ongoing Brexit uncertainty and will be set out next year, ahead of a fourth consultation in 2023.

This means the current scheme, which offers direct payments to farmers, will be extended for a third time until 2023.
