Surge in interest for rural properties following COVID-19 pandemic

The Guardian writes that many rural property owners and farmers are taking advantage of the boom in staycations by opening campsites to boost revenues before the removal of EU agricultural subsidies, as well as an expected downturn in income

This coincides with property agencies having seen an increase in interest for rural developments. Almost a third of buyers (30 percent) surveyed by Rightmove said the experience of the last few months had made them want to live in a more rural location, with one in five of those first-time buyers.

The pandemic has accelerated existing holiday trends, with many more rural businesses and estates diversifying their businesses to cater for increasing numbers of tourists opting for camping, glamping sites and holiday cottages in the UK.

The article reports that the trend for rural holiday accommodation, ‘whether it be glamping or cottages’, has vastly accelerated in the last month or two – and predicts that it will continue to remain strong.
