Rural schools not being fairly funded

The Oxford Mail reports that Layla Moran MP has said that schools are still ‘penny-pinching’ to cover basic supplies despite billions of pounds of promised funding

The Oxford West and Abingdon MP is also the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for education. Analysis by the School Cuts coalition of unions found that 80 per cent of schools in her constituency will face a funding shortfall in 2020 and 2021.

Moran said: ‘This analysis shows that this Government’s promise of more money was more an election publicity stunt than the real help schools need...This lack of funding is partnered with a deeply unfair distribution of money - schools with the most deprived intakes are facing shortfalls hundreds of pounds higher than those with the least deprived intakes.’

Indeed analysis of funding settlements shows that rural schools are the worst affected, with some in Oxfordshire seeing a 16 per cent decrease in funding.
