The Government’s Better Broadband Scheme was extended for another year on Tuesday 18. The scheme offers a subsidised broadband connection to anyone unable to access download speeds up to at least 2Mbps and who will not benefit from the superfast broadband roll out within the next 12 months. Elsewhere, the Rural Economy Committee met to hear evidence from healthcare professionals on the rural-specific challenges to providing decent healthcare.
On Wednesday 19 the Treasury Committee and the Housing, Government and Local Communities Committee heard from Mel Stride MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and Mike Williams, Director of Business and International Tax at the Treasury, on how business rates affect UK businesses.
