Rural isolation and mental health

Somerset County Gazette and South West Farmer have reported on YouGov research, commissioned by the Samaritans showing that nearly half (45 per cent) of men aged between 20 and 59 in rural communities in the UK have experienced feelings of anxiety during lockdown

Around a third (32 per cent) of men aged between 20 and 59 in rural communities also said that talking to others ‘helped’ with concerns and worries they had during lockdown.

The research also revealed that respondents stated ‘poor rural broadband and connectivity’ and the digital divide have also severely impacted many rural people’s lives.

The online debate is part of a series of sessions organised by Devon YFC and NFU Mutual, bringing together experts from all aspects of countryside living to discuss topical issues and share best practice.
