Rural inequality is a matter for everyone

In support of our call on Government for a Rural Strategy, Felicity Humphrey, of Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), argued in 24housing that rural inequality is not just a matter for rural dwellers.

She notes that already over-stretched housing and transport in overpopulated areas will only worsen if rural areas are ignored and residents migrate towards better serviced urban areas.

Humphrey, like the Rural Services Network, calls for a rural strategy that ‘places people at its centre’.

She concludes: ‘The Government must articulate a high-level rural policy objective and it needs to be implemented across all of Whitehall, because nobody should be unreasonably disadvantaged by where they live….without a rural strategy we all lose.’
