The statistics on road accidents and the severity of the casualties demonstrate clear differences between rural and urban.
Accidents involving buses or coaches are more prevalent in urban areas for all severities of accident. Conversely, accidents involving HGV vehicles are more likely in rural areas. Overall accident rates per resident population are greater in more rural areas. The below analysis provides an opportunity to discover your local authority's relative position for various modes of transport, and for the three levels of measured severity. It is interesting to consider what is causing the differences between similar local authorities and against urban and rural areas, and what might be done to improve road safety.
