No-deal Brexit impact on rural areas

Councillors in Shropshire have emphasised the ‘huge impact’ that a no-deal Brexit would have on England’s rural areas, as reported by the Shropshire Star. Green Party Councillor Julian Dean put forward a motion calling on his local authority to oppose leaving the EU without a deal. He argued: ‘We note the threat to people’s health due to the risk of shortages in medicines, and we note the threat to the livelihoods of our farming community due to the additional checks and changes to tariffs.

Other councillors agreed that ‘a no-deal Brexit will destroy rural Shropshire’ but Conservative councillors voted against the motion calling it a ‘delaying tactic’ by ‘openly anti-Brexit members’

We note that NFU President Minette Batters has said that a no-deal Brexit will be ‘socially and economically absolitely disastrous'.
