Government to launch ‘Bus Open Data Service’

The Department for Transport is ramping up its National Bus Location Data Plans, so that passengers should soon be able to know where every bus in the country is, reports CBR

The £4 million project aims to provide passengers, especially in rural locations, with digital journey-planning products and real-time bus location data by 2021.

The 2017 Bus Services Act insists bus operators should make fares, times and bus locations available to local authorities in order to create accurate timetables.

Developers will be able to add the information into existing apps or develop new products to improve connectivity for communities and encourage more people to use public transport.
