Funding for rural community groups

Community groups providing activities for rural young people in Shropshire are being encouraged to apply for funding.

The second funding round of Shropshire Council’s Rural Youth Activity Fund opens on Monday (20 August).

A total of £20,000 is available for youth groups and clubs in the eligible rural Local Joint Committee (LJC) areas, so that they can make a difference to the lives of young people.

The funding round will be open until 16 September 2018.

Nick Bardsley, Shorpshire's cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I am delighted that the council is able to make this funding available for young people living in our most rural areas.

The funding has previously been used for a range of activities – youth clubs, sports and arts programmes, and health awareness training – all of which have been greatly valued by young people.

“This is the second round of bidding this year. I would be very sorry if some communities miss out altogether, so if you didn’t get in touch earlier in the year, make sure you do so before the 16 September application deadline.”

Youth clubs and groups interested in applying for funding should check their eligibility with their local Shropshire councillor, or contact the council’s Community Enablement Team on 01743 253077 or by emailing communityenablement@shropshire.gov.uk.

The funding has been allocated to support activities that will meet the Shropshire Children, Young People and Families outcomes.

These include ensuring all children and young people are safe and well looked after in a supportive environment, narrowing the achievement gap in education and work, ensuring the emotional wellbeing of children and keeping more children healthy.
