December Edition of Casebook - Health Funding Opportunities from the Rural Health and Care Alliance

This month’s featured funding opportunities are:

Thriving Communities Fund
Provided by the National Academy for Social, the Arts Council, NHS England, Sport England, Natural England, the Office for Civil Society, the Money & Pensions Service and NHS Charities Together.

Funding is designed to increase social connectedness, and help communities cope with the impact of COVID-19.

Grants of £25,000 - £50,000 are available to collaborative projects led by voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCSFE) organisations working in any of the following sectors: 

  • Arts, and culture, including libraries, museums and heritage
  • Sport, leisure and physical activity organisations
  • Financial wellbeing, advice, food and practical support
  • Environment and nature-based organisations
  • Non-statutory health and care organisations, working with social prescribing link workers

Applicants will need to provide 20% match funding, which could include: NHS partners (Clinical Commissioning Groups, Primary Care Networks, Integrated Care Systems); local government; other trusts and foundations; philanthropy or corporate social responsibility; or a wide range of other possibilities. In-kind contributions can include support provided by partners, in addition to cash match – such as staff time, venue hire, project materials and equipment and online services.

The Application Deadline is 12pm (midday), 8 January 2021


The Yapp Charitable Trust
Offer grants of up to £3,000 per year for 3 years for charities who are working with:

  • Elderly people
  • Children and young people aged 5 - 25
  • People with physical impairments, learning difficulties or mental health challenges
  • Social welfare – people trying to overcome life-limiting problems of a social, rather than medical, origin (such as addiction, relationship difficulties, abuse, offending)
  • Education and learning (with a particular interest in people who are educationally disadvantaged, whether adults or children)

Grants are only available for ongoing core funding. Applications can be made at any time and Trustees meet 3 times per year to consider applications.


The Health Foundation
The Health Foundation have launched a £1.72m funding programme to support partnerships to promote health and reduce health inequalities through economic development strategies.

The Economies for Healthier Lives programme will support three to four partnerships across the UK with funding of £300,000 to £500,000 for up to three years.

Partnerships will be led by a local authority or a statutory regional body and will bring together a range of organisations including an academic and collaboration partner.

Expressions of interest are open until 12.00 (midday) Friday 15 January 2020.
