Franchising Post Offices concerns

This week MPs debated the franchising of Crown Post Offices and the effect on high streets and local communities.

Lisa Nandy MP, who tabled the debate, wrote in Politics Home to outline her concerns. During the debate MPs noted that the plan to move many branches of post offices into WH Smith stores was problematic for several reasons: WH Smith has recently been voted the UK’s worst high street retailer by Which? readers and they asked what would happen to post offices if WH Smith collapsed.

There were further concerns for the employees of the post office who will be transferred to jobs at WH Smith resulting in the loss of their pension protection.
