Events and Meetings

Throughout the year we provide a range of meetings and events for our subscribed authorities and organisations.

The different events range from seminars, to working groups to full meetings and provide organisations with the chance to engage at different levels with different issues.

We provide a rolling programme of seminars which are available for free to member organisations. The programme aims to help councils and organisations overcome the issues and challenges that they face when delivering services in rural areas. Seminars take place at a wide range of venues around the country. This gives everyone the opportunity to attend a seminar near to them and each one focuses on a different topic with specialist speakers.

Meetings we facilitate

The Rural Services Network facilitates meetings where we feel we can make a significant difference.

We established the All Party Parliamentary Group on Rural Services – providing our members with a direct line of influence to Members of Parliament.  We provide the Secretariat for the APPG and meetings are held in Westminster 4 times a year.

We have established the UK Rural Policy and Practitioners Group.  This Group provides a forum for organisations with a rural interest from across the UK to come together, share knowledge and discuss relevant rural issues. With the devolution that has occurred and the establishment of varying policies and systems across different parts of the UK, there is a lot to learn from comparing and contrasting ways of working. We have four convenors, one in each of the Home Countries.

Our Meetings and Events

1.  We host a number of meetings a year, including our AGM which are open to our members.  These bring together members to debate the key issues affecting their rural areas.

2.  Meetings help to shape a cohesive rural voice which the Rural Services Network can champion at a national level.  Meetings also help to shape the work programme for the network as a whole.

3.  The Rural Services Network is a Special Interest Group of the LGA and we have a number of specific interest groups that meet to discuss particular areas of work.

4.  Sparse Rural meet 3 times a year in the morning with the Rural Assembly meeting held on the same day in the afternoon.
