Traditional Signpost Restoration Course Opens For 2026

CPRE Northumberland is running a one-off Traditional Signpost Restoration training course in 2026, led by David Gosling of Signpost Restoration Ltd. The course will take place over three weekends (May, July and September) in Northumberland and is designed to equip participants with the skills, knowledge and contacts needed to restore cast-iron fingerposts — iconic features of the rural landscape that are increasingly at risk.

This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of the UK’s leading specialists.

Training will cover:

  • Traditional restoration techniques and materials
  • Health and safety and liaison with authorities
  • Practical business knowledge for those interested in taking this forward professionally

The organisers are particularly keen to reach individuals or groups with an interest in rural heritage, traditional skills or community-led conservation — whether as volunteers, professionals or prospective trainees.

Applications are open until Monday 9 February 2026.
