In the UK, our colleagues are helping to redefine what’s possible for rural communities. We believe rural areas are vital to the nation’s future, supporting climate action, food security, renewable energy, and local economies. Yet, we understand these communities face persistent challenges: limited transport options, digital exclusion, and declining access to essential services.

With an approach rooted in place and people, we work with our long term local authority partners, sub-national transport bodies, government and local communities to deliver solutions that are tailored to rural needs, not urban models repackaged. We listen to residents, understand local geographies, and co-create strategies and proposals that reflect the diversity of rural life, from market towns to the most remote corners of the country.

See the world differently

Our “30-minute rural community” concept reimagines access to services, jobs and social opportunities within limited journey time by sustainable means. It’s about clustering settlements, enhancing digital and physical connectivity, and empowering communities to shape their own futures. We’ve applied this thinking across a range of regional and local strategies and policies to build better access in rural places. We have also made a difference on the ground through delivering a wide range of project such as demand-responsive transport pilots, mobility hubs and networks of active travel routes.
