Planning reform needed to speed up rural connectivity

Farmers Weekly has published a new report commissioned by the think tank Onward and the National Farmers Union (NFU) looking into the major issues facing farming communities and rural regions in a bid to influence the government’s ‘Levelling Up’ agenda, with digital connectivity being highlighted as a key challenge

The report highlights how ‘superfast’ broadband is described as a service delivering more than 30mbps, however almost half of rural populated areas receive broadband speeds of as low as 10mbps.

The report suggests that digital infrastructure is a greater priority than physical infrastructure, as lack of connectivity prevents people from staying or moving to the countryside.
