MP’s fight for rural bus services

Market Rasen Mail has covered news that Sir Edward Leigh MP (Con) has criticised a regional bus company for withdrawing services from small rural communities: ‘when they need it most’

Leigh maintained it is ‘wrong’ of Stagecoach East Midlands to withdraw services at this time, and called on the bus company to reinstate services: ‘as soon as possible’.

Stagecoach East Midlands said the company had run a reduced timetable during the lockdown and has since been working closely with local authorities to reinstate services ‘where possible’.

The article describes how public transport is vital in helping rural residents get an education, get to work and access local shops, leisure and health facilities, making rural bus services, like post offices, a lifeline to rural communities, especially during COVID-19.
