Lostwithiel WI make waves for clean rivers

Last month, the BBC and the Cornish Times featured the collective hard work of a local consortium who are working to make part of a tidal river in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, an official bathing spot. Lostwithiel WI have been vital in putting the bathing water application together, as part of the WI’s long-running Clean Rivers campaign – which continues to inspire members around the country all year round; year in year out.

Cornwall Councillor Sarah Preece is backing the consultation, which is one of 13 proposed new designated bathing spots being looked at by the Environment Agency. The Lostwithiel community should find out if they have been successful at the end of March. So we may have an answer by the time you read this.

The brilliant banner in the photograph has been used at multiple events including the London march for Clean Water last year, and alongside Surfers Against Sewage to lobby South West Water on the day of their AGM.

We really hope you are successful, Lostwithiel WI, we have our fingers’ crossed. Well done for all your persistence!
