Heating, health and village halls help

Heat Your Home for Less - Our county-wide oil buying scheme continues to deliver competitive oil prices for its members The aim of the scheme is to make the most of collective buying power by reducing the price of heating oil and then passing those savings on to the members. The scheme is open to individuals, businesses and community organisations who use oil to heat their homes and premises. We work in partnership with Olive (trading as eSmartMetrics Ltd) to take the hassle out of ordering your heating oil. If you haven't yet taken the plunge, you can find out more and register free for the scheme by emailing us at bulkoil@lincsymca.co.uk or by calling 01529 301 980. The price secured for members of our scheme for our April 2023 order was 68.33p per litre. All our prices exclude VAT, which currently sits at 5% for domestic heating oil. Register for the scheme before our next order deadline of Midnight on Tuesday 9th May 2023.

The Big Energy Saving Network
Through the Big Energy Saving Network project, YMCA Lincolnshire has helped support over 160 individuals with advice and support since October last year exceeding the target set by the network of 150.  This has been delivered in both group sessions, and one-to-one support, with a particular emphasis on rural communities and those most vulnerable.  Additional support to a number of clients in partnership with the Fuel Bank Foundation has also been given and we have now issued 55 fuel vouchers for those experiencing the hardships of a ‘Fuel Crisis’.

Research Ready Communities Programme
In the last year, the University of Lincoln has been involved in a Research Ready Communities Programme, along with Clinical Research Network East Midlands, regarding Community Champions in rural Lincolnshire. YMCA Communities Team have helped enlist a Community Champion from Hemingby to engage with this programme; which helps local communities to find out what health and care research is, how it can benefit them, how to take part in research and helps them get more involved with other research opportunities that are taking place locally.

The Community Champion finds out from the community their views on health research, where people go for information and support about their health, and also assists people to consider the opportunities to take part in research and inform them on how it happens. The results of the programme will be available later in the year. In the meantime, it’s important that we consider health equality for all and the ways in which we can make positive changes in our local community.
