Funding Available For Innovative Transport Projects

Organisations with innovative ideas to improve the UK's transport system are being invited to apply for the latest round of the Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG) programme.

Funded by the Department for Transport and delivered by Connected Places Catapult, the programme is offering up to £2.385 million in funding across up to 53 projects. Successful applicants can receive grants of up to £45,000, alongside specialist business support and networking opportunities.

The programme supports organisations of any size working on early-stage research and development projects that have the potential to make transport greener, more resilient, safer and better connected.

This year's competition is seeking proposals in five areas: maritime decarbonisation, freight innovation, digital twins, critical technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced connectivity, and an open category for projects addressing wider transport challenges aligned with government priorities.

Since its launch 12 years ago, TRIG has supported 474 projects and provided £17.4 million in funding. Connected Places Catapult reports that projects supported through the programme have subsequently secured significant additional public and private investment.

Applications close at 12 noon on Friday 5 June 2026.
