Call for Evidence on the Future of the Rural Economy

The Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG) has launched a new call for evidence to inform its upcoming report on the future of the rural economy, taking a forward-looking view to 2040.

Building on its previous work exploring rural Britain and rural poverty, this latest research will examine the industries that underpin rural economies, the barriers faced by businesses, and the policy environment shaping growth. It aims to identify the actions needed during the current Parliament to unlock long-term resilience, investment and opportunity across rural areas.

Recognising the vital contribution rural economies make to the UK’s wider economic, social and environmental success, the LRRG is inviting stakeholders to share their experiences of doing business in rural Britain, including the challenges and opportunities they encounter.

The Rural Services Network will be contributing evidence to this work and encourages members and partners to consider submitting their own insights to help ensure rural perspectives are fully reflected.

Submissions can be made via the LRRG website:

This is an important opportunity to help shape the policy thinking needed to support a thriving and sustainable rural economy in the years ahead.
