Bromsgrove

Location: West Midlands

Population: 96,800 (2016)

Interesting fact: Bromsgrove was a centre for nail making. Having enjoyed prominence in the wool trade during the Middle Ages its skills were turned to nail making. By the late 18th century almost 1000 people were employed. The French Huguenots who had fled persecution in their own country brought their skills to the area. It was only industrial processes that dealt the final hammer blow to this trade.
