Broadcast 2040+ Campaign Update

The Rural Services Network is part of the Broadcast 2040+ campaign, which is working to protect the future of free-to-air terrestrial television across the UK.

In a recent milestone for the campaign, representatives from Silver Voices and the Digital Poverty Alliance visited Downing Street to deliver a petition signed by more than 140,000 people, calling on Government to protect the future of Freeview. The petition urges ministers to maintain free-to-air terrestrial television until at least the mid-2040s, highlighting concerns that a move to internet-only TV could place new costs and barriers on households.

The campaign has also continued its engagement across Parliament and the devolved nations, alongside contributing to consultations linked to the BBC’s Royal Charter and wider broadcasting policy.

With elections approaching and the expected publication of the BBC Charter Renewal Green Paper, this is a key moment for the campaign to ensure the case for accessible, universal broadcasting is clearly heard.
