ENGLAND'S rural services are to be the subject of a special national conference.
THE future for England’s rural services will be discussed at a special national conference to be held this autumn in Gloucestershire. The one-day event - Rural Services 2020: the challenge of sustaining rural communities – takes place at Cheltenham on 24 October. It is being organised by the Rural Services Network in association with the Countryside and Community Research Institute. The event is aimed at rural decision-makers It will seek to look forward 12 years to the point when, if current projections and plans are fulfilled, 3 million new homes will have been built in England. Delegates will consider whether the government’s commitment to improved and locally responsive public services has been delivered. With particular reference to service delivery, delegates will be encouraged to consider what the future shape of rural communities will be in 2020. They will be asked to review the changes they will have experienced and to identify the key turning points. Chaired by Elinor Goodman, speakers will include Professor Malcolm Moseley of CCRI and Trevor Cherrett of the Commission for Rural Communities. Presentations will also be given by James Shorten (formerly of Land Use Consultants), and Chris Wade of Action for Market Towns. The conference will particularly interest rural service providers, rural decision-makers, policy-makers and stakeholders. But delegates from member organisations of the Rural Services Network will be particularly welcome. They will receive one free place for every full price booking. The cost of attendance will be £75 per head (including VAT) – including lunch. For further details, download a booking form by clicking here (153kb Word document).
