Location: South East Population: 135,800 (ONS, census 2011) Interesting fact: The Roman Watling Street passed through the area, as witness the straightness of the A2 main road, now by-passed by the M2 motorway. Apart from northern coast of the Isle of Sheppey, and the immediate areas around the towns, it is a mainly rural borough, containing a high proportion of the UK's apple, pear, cherry and plum orchards, as well as remaining hop gardens. |

A local insight
The RSN is asking Councils to give a local rural perspective through answers to the two questions set out below. This process is ongoing, but we hope to be given first replies for this year by the end of 2011. The boxes below will be completed as we hear back from authorities.
